The men’s ministry of Bible Baptist Church consists of two parts – Sunday School and the Men’s Prayer Fellowship.
Sunday School
The adult men’s Sunday School class is Sunday mornings from 10
– 10:45. During this time we hear practical teaching on daily living and receive practical training on Christian living. We also dig deeper into the Word of God to get a better understanding of who God is and what this means for us.
Men’s Prayer Fellowship
“These all continued with one accord in prayer & supplication…”
Acts 1:14a
The power of any New Testament church is in its relationship with God through prayer and obedience to God’s Word. Unity is the outward manifestation of that walk of obedience by the members of the local church. As iron sharpens iron, we know the importance of Christ-
centered fellowship and corporate prayer. To that end, the men of Bible Baptist Church gather regularly for a prayer breakfast every other month.
The above reference to Acts 1:14 continues with “… with the women…”
Not only do our men gather for prayer, but on the same scheduled days, we host a Ladie’s Prayer Brunch.
Both events follow a similar pattern. First they both begin with a “Meet & Greet” time of coffee and fellowship, followed by a time of food, prepared by the men of the church. Men of the church are asked to prepare a short devotional, challenge and/or share their testimony. We have had young men in their teens bring a devotional at this Prayer Fellowship. Our goal is to equip the saints for being better prepared to share the Word of God with a lost and dying world. For many, public speaking is a fearful experience. We have found this to be an excellent training opportunity.
Prayer requests and a season of prayer follow the devotional time.
Guests are encouraged to attend. A “guest” is not defined or limited to someone looking for a church home or someone who does not know the Lord. A guest can be a friend, relative, co-worker, even one who is a member in good standing in another local church. Our goal is not to recruit, but rather to band together in prayer. We have even had other pastors visit and encouraged them to consider beginning a Men’s Prayer Fellowship in their own church.
It is important to stress that the emphasis of this event is the prayer time, not the food. Although we, as good Independent Baptists, enjoy gathering around a table, it is infinitely more important that we pray together. Men come prepared to pray. Prayer, however, is much more than sharing our “Wants & Needs” list with each other. Prayer is praising God, sharing blessings and answers to prayer. Prayer follows the pattern established in the Books of Acts: A.C.T.S.
